Quick answers

Is Blueberry indica or sativa?

Mostly indica, according to every source opened, though labels differ in detail. Leafly files it as indica; DJ Short Seeds, SeedFinder and AllBud give an 80% indica / 20% sativa label for their records or descriptions.1,2,7,8

Who created Blueberry?

DJ Short. Leafly calls him the American breeder behind Blueberry, and his own seed page says the line dates to the late 1970s; JD Short told Willamette Week the sought-after Blueberry phenotype emerged in his father’s work around 1979.1,2,3

What are Blueberry’s parents?

There is no single settled published recipe. Leafly names Purple Thai × Thai; Weedmaps describes an Afghani male crossed with Highland Thai and Purple Thai females; JD Short’s son names Thai, Chocolate Thai, Afghan and Oaxacan as the starting strains.1,3,4

How strong is Blueberry?

Across 411 state lab tests of flower, Blueberry’s median total THC was 21.91%; 28.2% of tests reached 25% or more, and 90% were below 26.42%.6 Published listings are not a substitute for the distribution: Leafly lists 17%, AllBud 16–24%, Weedmaps 16–24%, and SeedFinder’s record shows 18.5%.1,4,7,8

What does Blueberry taste like?

The recurring description is berry-led. Leafly lists blueberry, berry and sweet, while Weedmaps’ reported flavors are blueberry, berry and grape; DJ Short Seeds describes a fruity blueberry aroma and taste.1,2,4

Is Blueberry the same as Blueberry Muffin, Blueberry Kush or Blueberry Cookies?

No. They are separately named strains or crosses, not interchangeable names for the Blueberry cut. Our strict lab match excluded 5,712 near-name results, led by Blueberry Headband, Blueberry Cookies, Blueberry Diesel and Blueberry Kush; Leafly separately lists Blueberry Muffin as a Blueberry child.1,6

A foundation for the Blue family

Blueberry’s documented legacy starts with recognition: DJ Short Seeds, Leafly, Weedmaps and the Cannabis Cup winners list all record a 2000 Cannabis Cup result. Later Dutch Passion award accounts conflict: Weedmaps records third place in the 2002 Indica Cup, while Dutch Passion lists third prize at the 2001 High Times Cannabis Cup.1,2,4,5,9

The family has spread widely, but this is not proof that every similarly named product is original Blueberry. SeedFinder lists 614 direct descendants in its database, and Leafly’s family graphic identifies Blue Dream and Blueberry Muffin as children.1,7
