The history of Blueberry

Most published accounts date Blueberry or its development to DJ Short’s late-1970s work, while AllBud says he began working with landraces in the early 1970s.1,2,3,4,5 Sources that cover the award describe a later 2000 High Times Cannabis Cup result.1,2,5,6,7 The parent recipe and later seed-line history are less uniform, so this page keeps those accounts attributed rather than presenting a single origin myth.1,4,5,6,8

How the line spread

JD Short told Willamette Week that Blueberry’s stabilized color and berry-forward traits stood apart from the material then common in the United States, and that Eugene visitors carried genetics toward Northern California.4 Leafly says that decades of cultivation through multiple seed banks and breeders contributed to variation in the genetics passed under the name.1
